Home Receipts
With the end of the year just passed, I have cleared out my receipt accordion file. This is a way to keep receipts that a friend of mine told me about.
I have an accordion file folder with alphabet tabs. So when I go to a store I file the receipt under the beginning letter of the store. This means all Target receipts are under “T” and all Bath and Body Works are under “B”. If I purchase only food I don’t keep that receipt. But if there is an item that may need to be returned for some reason or I need to keep track of the receipt then I file it. (If I did all my food receipts there would be way too many).
So now I can find a receipt whenever I need to – no more looking through drawers, trying to find the bag I bought it in, or going through the trash can. The accordion file folder is nice enough looking that you can keep it in the kitchen by the phone. Now it is so easy and will become automatic to file the receipt when you first come home from the store.
Then at year end I pull out all the receipts and place them in a manila folder labeled “Receipts 2009” and it goes with all my other tax papers from 2009. Just try it and see if if works for you. Organization saves time and gives us peace of mind. Leslie
P.S. Business receipts are kept in a different place than the home receipts. Also when purchasing large items the receipt is best stapled inside the back cover of the manual and filed with the manuals.
