Procrastination

I was just thinking about why we sometimes delay or don’t clean up and organize our homes and paperwork. I think it’s procrastination. It’s a lot like homework – we don’t want to do it so we put it off as long as possible. After all there are so many other more important things to do in life. We need to sleep, eat, work, fulfill our obligations, relax, etc. But we really are better off if we are organized. Disorganization adds stress to our lives which does affect our overall health, it depletes our energy, it takes almost double the housework to take care of all our extra stuff, it can even increase depression tendencies. It sounds terrible and it is. Getting organized needs to take a much higher priority in our lives. With homework we have a deadline and so it eventually gets done. Home organization has no deadline so it doesn’t get done. We need to start even if small and slowly. All progress is good. Because when we are organized we feel so much lighter – a burden is actually lifted off our shoulders, we have more time to do those things we want because we don’t have to care or clean so much, bills get paid on time because they aren’t “lost” in a pile, and we are a happier person. So if you have been putting off “taking the plunge” with that first drawer, closet, or pile of papers take courage, don’t procrastinate, and start sorting – keeping the important items and tossing or donating the rest. Start small but start today. Leslie
