House Cleaning Calendar

I took this information from the Reader’s Digest article “The Ultimate Clean-Home Calendar.” I have tweaked it a bit. I find that I clean my home better when it is scheduled. If I just clean when things look dirty then by then they are really dirty. So I schedule my cleaning. I do laundry Wednesday and Saturday, I mop on Friday, and get groceries on Monday etc. So I really liked this calendar article. I haven’t done all that it says yet but I am working on it.

EVERY DAY: put things away as finish with them – wash dishes, wipe kitchen counters and stove, and empty trash – squeegee showers after use to prevent mineral deposits – make beds and straighten rooms

TWICE A WEEK: dust mop hardwood floors to prevent scratching from dirt – put away clutter – vacuum if you live in a dusty area or have children and pets that track in dirt, otherwise weekly

ONCE A MONTH: wipe or vacuum baseboards and blinds – sweep the garage, patio, and walkways – vacuum upholstered furniture with brush attachment – wash throw rugs – dust ceiling fans – change furnace or air conditioner filters

THREE MONTHS: polish wood furniture – remove spiderwebs from ceiling corners, stairwells, etc – clean oven

SIX MONTHS: wash windows inside and out – declutter storage areas in the basement, attic, and garage – vacuum, flip, and rotate mattresses – polish silver

ONCE A YEAR: move heavy furniture to clean behind and underneath – vacuum rug pads and backs of area rugs – clean drapes and carpets – turn area rugs 180 degrees to even out wear – wash walls – clean chandeliers

Good luck. Have a great clean day, Leslie
